What is tallow, and why build a balm on it?

Tallow is rendered beef fat, gently melted and filtered until it sets as a mild, near-white solid. Ours is grass-fed. We build on it because its fatty acids, mostly oleic, palmitic and stearic, are close to the ones your own skin makes, so it tends to absorb rather than sit on the surface. People used it on their skin for centuries before it went out of fashion in favour of cheaper synthetics.

Is your skincare vegan?

No. Tallow is an animal fat, so nothing we make is vegan or vegetarian, and we would rather say that plainly than bury it in an ingredient list. If you have a beef allergy, including alpha-gal syndrome, our products are not for you.

How long does shipping take?

Orders are packed and dispatched within 2 to 3 business days of payment clearing. After that, standard shipping is $6.00 and arrives in 3 to 7 business days, and express is $18.00 and arrives in 1 to 3. Transit time is counted from dispatch, not from when you place the order.

Do you ship outside the US?

Canada, for now. Canadian orders may attract duties, taxes, or customs handling fees on arrival, which are set by the Canada Border Services Agency rather than by us. We are working out the rest of the world before we promise anything we cannot deliver on.

Can I return something?

You have 30 days from delivery to start a return. Unopened products get a full refund, minus the original shipping. Because these are skincare products, opened items cannot be resold, so they are handled under our satisfaction promise instead: if a balm did not work for your skin, tell us within 30 days and we will offer a replacement, a store credit, or a refund.

My balm arrived soft. Is it ruined?

No. Tallow softens above roughly 90°F and firms again as it cools, so a balm that arrives soft or slightly separated has not spoiled. Let it set at room temperature, or put it in the fridge for 20 minutes. If it arrives genuinely unusable, email us and we will take care of it.

Should I patch test?

Yes, and it costs you two days. Put a small amount on the inside of your forearm, leave it 24 to 48 hours, and look for redness, itching or small bumps before putting it on your face. This matters more than usual with a citrus-scented tallow balm, because both the fruit extract and the beef-derived base are things a small number of people react to.

How long does a jar last once opened?

Use it within 12 months of opening. Keep the lid on and keep it out of direct sun and off a hot windowsill. There is unrefined vitamin E in the formula to slow the oils breaking down, but heat and light will still shorten its life.
